Build the Next Gen HIE with Smile Digital Health
It hasn’t been easy, has it?
Building a secure, compliant and quality digital exchange of health data across populations with multi-stakeholder collaboration, an evolving legislative landscape and heavily siloed data from disconnected legacy IT systems.
This may have been healthcare IT’s history. But it is not our future.
Smile Digital Health (Smile) enables HIEs, payers, providers, researchers and life sciences organizations to ingest, unify, enrich, elevate, store and analyze and share health information. Our solution is a FHIR®-powered Health Data Platform (HDP). It was created with open-standards to modernize public health utility services. Contextual, structured data that is captured, then enables automations to create care traffic control systems—this includes managing safety and mitigating risks in near-real time.
FHIR and Next-Gen Health Information Exchange (HIE)
FHIR is the simplest, most extendable, and most adopted version of a healthcare interoperability standard that is also comprehensive, flexible, and intuitive. The CMS and ONC’s interoperability proposed rules mandate and progressively enforce FHIR endpoints and FHIR workflows. FHIR leads the way because it provides the healthcare industry with a breadth of standards from a data model perspective. This includes a set of APIs, a well structured way of modeling and storing the information, as well as a set of guidelines and approaches (implementation guides or IGs) that describe how to use FHIR to achieve your organization’s goals. Those goals could be how to measure and impact social determinants of health, how to build on clinical research, how to optimize and store imaging, how to securely store and transmit volumes of managed, structured data between organizations, just to name a few.
Unlike other IT vendors who use their own proprietary data models with outdated/unresponsive technology, or cloud offerings that lock customers into expensive transactional billing models, the Smile HDP is different.
Smile and the Next-Gen HIE
The Smile HDP is a FHIR-based data and architecture model that creates an interoperable and legislatively compliant foundation for the next generation of HIEs. This foundation for HIEs includes the ability to:
-
Unify and centralize data ingestion from all formats including CDAs, by transforming it into FHIR. This accelerates and expands the capacity of HIEs to exchange mega-volume data, at high velocities.
-
Enrich which ensures high quality, usable data that is complete and stored within a single, structured, source-of-truth repository. This low-cost system offers efficiency, accuracy and complete interoperability that improves patient care and generates clean quality data upon which an HIE can run deeper insights.
-
Elevate the value of data with clinical reasoning, automated quality measures & actionable clinical insights delivered at the point of care. HIEs can build out these value-added services to their networks, as part of their value-based care initiatives.
The Smile Health Data Platform is compliant with CMS, ONC and other regional regulatory mandates. With our MegaScale feature, our platform performs high-volume ingestion and exchange at large-scales, without compromising security.
Smile leads the industry in security certifications, giving your organization peace of mind that your data is safe and exchangeable. We hold certifications in HITRUST®, SOC 2® - Type II, ISO 27001, ISO 27018 and ISO 13485:2016.
Clinical Reasoning At Scale
With Clinical Reasoning on FHIR, it becomes possible to facilitate genuinely computable Clinical Practice Guidelines to automate Clinical Decision Support (CDS) which would significantly reduce administrative workload on providers. As well, by harnessing CQL (Clinical Quality Language) and FHIR, advanced analytics and real time digital quality measures can accelerate quality of care and reduce operational costs.
With Smile as your vendor-partner and trusted guide, you can also look forward to:
-
Proven, battle-tested performance, security and data exchange, at scale
